Gone to Flowers

It is a sadness to hear of the passing of Mary Travers. I literally grew up with Peter Paul and Mary. "Where Have All the Flowers Gone" was one of the first songs I learned to sing; my parents and I used to sing it on long drives when we were still living in England. Maybe twenty years later, I saw them live when I was living in Toronto - at the outdoor concert bowl in Ontario Place, on a warm June night. I remember having tears in my eyes when they sang "The River is Wide" (alas, I couldn't find them singing it on YouTube).

Here is "Where Have All the Flowers Gone"

Bummer. She had a great voice and a great presence--a very strong and confident-seeming woman. I sang this song in choir for Remembrance Day, and so did my son, and so did my daughter. That's staying power.
