Am I the only person to find something bizarre and very postmodern in the concept of this community, in which people scan their handwritten journals and post them to their LJ? Maybe it's just me, but it seems very Julian Barnes-ish.

Or maybe not. I dunno.

My reading doesn't encompass Juilan BArnes, but it still seems odd.

Barnes plays around a lot with the idea of what is "real" or authentic and what isn't particularly in the area of copies of things - at what point does a reproduction become "real"? In Flaubert's Parrot a man writing a biography of Flaubert becomes obsessed with trying to find the "real" stuffed parrot that belonged to Flaubert amongst a sea of claimants and copies. England | England is about a kind of England Disneyland built on the IOW with fake Robin Hoods and so on who start to believe they're "really" that character.

Thanks for that.
