I love it, unless the face belongs to someone who was a pain in the butt. There was this one student I had quite a few years ago, and I have to confess my heart sank when I saw him/her turn up again in a second class.
But usually, as in this case, I feel more confident and relaxed if I see a group of familiar faces smiling at me on the first day.
