I think it does have potential and as noted by Academhack, it seems to be around focusing of communication skills. I did think of using it, but I couldn't see how it would be useful with a big class. Nothing I've seen yet has any mention of class size, so I'm assuming it's the smaller tutorial groups (up to 30 students) that would most benefit or be most manageable.
I'm kinda wondering how it would be different from developing any other short forms of writing (eg haiku) except that it is in the moment and potentially more reflective of a current activity. Some of the people Academhack follows seem to create more interesting tweets (and probably have more interesting lives ;-) than me), and I get the impression that it's more of an extravert's plaything.
