Yes oh yes. It must have moved you--moves me reading about it--to share something with so many people... the fact of that--never mind how cool and mysterious the moon itself looked--must have lent the event power.
Here, tonight, my kids and I huddled outside and looked and exclaimed, and one neighbor at least, across the street, poked her head outside,too, though it seems more to look at us than to look at the moon (but let's give her the benefit of the doubt and assume she was interested in the moon as well).
I liked, though, that all over North America, people were seeing it just as we were.
