I've recently been catching up on my children's books reading - for those who don't know me, children's books are a minor passion of mine. I've been disappointed by some recent ones (more on this later), but very pleased to see that some older books, especially fantasies, are being reissued. That's what I mean by Harry Potter effect. For example, I saw a new paperback edition of The String in the Harp by Nancy Bond - a very good domestic fantasy that I've re-read many times. I've just been reading the Snow Spider trilogy by Jenny Nimmo, which I've never been able to find in entirety before but which has now been reissued in a one-volume paperback. Keeping these books alive for a new generation is a Good Thing, as Martha Stewart would say, and long may the Harry Potter effect continue!
