Butchart Fireworks

[livejournal.com profile] lidocafe asked me, as a great favour, to take her and her daughter to see the famous fireworks display at Butchart Gardens. Of course, it took me about 1/2 a second to agree to the "favour" (it was a huge treat for me, just in case that isn't clear). So we took ourselves out there, braving both the heat and the amazing crush of people. It was totally worth it, and I got some good photos, too, about which I am chuffed, considering I've never really tried to take fireworks shots before (see more at my Flickr site). I wish I could have captured the magical installations more at ground level. The best one was a slightly oriental scene with a boat crossing a lake and being approached by a dragon that breathed fire at them. Not quite Gandalf standard, perhaps, but out of the ordinary for those of us not lucky enough to be in Hobbiton for Bilbo's birthday.

As well as feeling the heat, all three of us had had a very busy day and I don't think any of us were quite up to appreciating the gardens. It would be well, in any case, to go back on a day when there were not fireworks, as the crowds were rather off-putting. Lidocafe's daughter S had been to a birthday party and I had been out baking in the heat picking blackberries for charity, so we were all rather tired. But the fireworks woke us up for sure, and it added to the delight to share S's excitement.

It was a Good TimeTM

Butchart Fireworks

Just because I can. And I like the colours in this one.
