I was awoken at 2:00 am by Robinson crashing around. He had had some routine de-worming medicine last night, and at first I thought he had an upset tummy. He kept asking to go out, then asking to come in, then asking to go out... And he wouldn't settle. He just paced around, bumping into things, including Zoe, who of course snapped at him because she doesn't like being disturbed when she's sleeping. I tried confining him, but he just barked to be let out, but then wouldn't settle in his bed. I finally decided that I didn't want to risk leaving him until our usual vet opened, and took him to the hospital, which is fortunately just down the road from here. And he's there now.

The positive: his vitals are good; he had a complete blood work-up very recently, which was normal. He's not vomiting or having diarrhea.

The negative: he's nearly thirteen years old. He has been getting more restless at night, and I've had some concerns that something was hurting him somewhere (he refuses to be picked up and has been having more difficulty jumping into the car). Of course, I worry that they're going to find some kind of growth...

Anyway, they're doing to sedate him and give him some pain meds, do an X-ray and another blood work-up and what-not. I'll know more later.

ETA: Thanks for all the good wishes.  Update: he seems to have some intense upset in his gut.  The X-ray showed inflammation and a lot of gas, which is no doubt why he was so uncomfortable.  He's also had some diarrhea at the hospital.  They're going to give him some IV fluids and keep an eye on him.  It's sounding as if they may even keep him until tomorrow, which indicates to me that I wasn't over-reacting. It's interesting that I had him in to his vet a month ago with diarrhea that wouldn't go away, but which seemed to get better on its own, so they never treated it.  He's going to get some antibiotics now.  I'll know more later today.  At least there wasn't a mass, which is what I was afraid of.

and I'm trying really really hard not to think about the fact that it's two years ago to the day that Cholmondeley died...
