The Guardian obit is here.
When I was in my twenties I cut a swathe through all his books. There was something comforting about them, with their tough but sensitive heroes and good triumphing over the baddies. They could be quite nastily violent - I still remember one person having his hand broken and one plot that involved those cattle guns that featured in No Country for Old Men.
Sometimes my own taste in books surprises me.
