A show everyone should watch.

Well, Firefly, obviously, but I think that in this context I'm probably preaching to the converted. If you are the one person reading this who hasn't seen it, what are you waiting for?

But here's a suggestion for something many of you might not have seen, but should: Da Vinci's Inquest. It's a crime show, episodic but with ongoing story lines, based on the experiences of a coroner and a group of major crime detectives. For a long time, I thought it was the best show on TV. Amazingly (or maybe not), it's Canadian, shot in Vancouver, and some of the story-lines were based on real-life cases. The coroner character is based on a real person who actually ended up becoming mayor of Vancouver, but the actor who plays him makes him a wonderful, conflicted and edgy character. There is a splendid ensemble cast (including someone you'd recognize from Battlestar Gallactica), and the production values are first rate. Don't watch it for a travelogue of Vancouver, because it makes the city look dirtier and grittier and more dangerous than it is. It's out on dvd: in my local HMV it's filed with British shows, for some reason, but that says something about the quality.
