I'm not surprised that we have quite a few in common - and I've just added Miss Jean Brodie - Maggie Smith at her very best, IMO.
I didn't much like the Ciaran Hinds "Persuasion", though - at least, the ending annoyed me quite a bit. They used the deleted chapters for preference over JA's final choice. Why? Do they really feel their judgement is superior to hers?
Ah. I hadn't read the book (I'm ashamed to confess) - maybe that's why I liked it. It's actually my favourite of all the Jane Austen adaptations (the movies, at least, not counting the Colin Firth P&P). And yeah, the movie of Miss JB, even though the TV version was actually more faithful to the book, is unforgettable - "assassin!!" as Pamela... whatsername... strides away down the hall, still brings shivers. And that scene when she talks about Dante and Beatrice meeting and looking at one another with "such a longing..." ooh.
