I can't believe I didn't include Anne Sexton, Sylvia Plath, Christina Rossetti, Margaret Atwood, or Kathleen Raine (her, mostly because I have a book of her poems collected with my uncle David's and one other poet)
I was surprised (and in some ways pleased) at the way three Canadian poets popped out almost unbidden. I studied Phyllis Webb in a Canadian poetry course, and took a grad course with Daphne Marlett, but Dorothy Livesay surprised me. I think of Atwood primarily as a novelist, but I teach her poetry... so go figure ;-)
