I'm with you on the Mercedes Lackey as junk food. I've not read many of hers (only the Last Herald Mage series, actually) but I loved them. I've reread them several times when feeling a bit ill or tired. They're so delightfully trashy. All the men are stunningly gorgeous. There's angst galore. And talking horses...!
I hadn't heard of Lymond. I googled the name, and will definitely put those books on my "to read" list. (Assuming I found the right Lymond.)
What did you think of "The King of Attolia"? I loved it! I wasn't so keen on the second book, but I loved this one.
