If you haven't read Dorothy Dunnett's Lymond series, you have a treat in store! I envy someone who has the whole lot to look forward to. Many, many readers (and writers) of fantasy love them, in much the same way as it seems lots also like Patrick O'Brien (whom I have yet to really catch on to). Guy Gavriel Kay cites Dunnett as an influence, for example. I loved the King of Attolia! It was such an effective end to the series (although it left me wanting more...) and I love it when someone who is supposed to be clever IS clever - when the author's intelligence matches her character's. And Lackey is definitely my prime guilty pleasure here's (http://intertext.livejournal.com/1429.html) what I wrote about her in 2003 (wow, have I been LJ'ing that long?)
