I borrowed the first book in the Lymond series today. (It's great working in the same building as the library service's fiction stack.) I'll turn to it once I've finished the Lian Hearn I'm currently half way through.
I never managed to get into Patrick O'Brien. I wanted to, but there was something about his use of colons (or maybe semi-colons) that really annoyed me.
I was totally taken in by the King of Attolia. I felt very stupid afterwards, since I really should have been wise to his tricks, given how thoroughly I was fooled by him in the first book, too. I just gasped in awe and delight when the full extent of his cleverness was revealed.
