Only three more sleeps to Paris! Well - strictly four, if you count Monday night on the plane, but only three till I'm on my way.

And sleep is something of the operative word. I didn't, last night, hardly at all (hence the buzzing in my subject line). I think that my excitement is catching up with me now that the grades are in, last bits and pieces of work related "stuff" done, and my only to do list after this morning has only trip related items on it.

This morning I'm giving a workshop for my peers at the college on blogging and wikis and other Web 2.0 tools. Should be fun - I've done several like this in the past, so am not too worried about it, though there's always an extra bit of stage fright when teaching teachers. In my experience, though, they tend to be less critical than regular students, and much more polite.

This week has been pretty busy, both with getting work things done and some pleasant little social things. I had lunch on Wednesday at 5th St with [livejournal.com profile] lidocafe, and we as usual discussed a range of interesting topics. Books, of course, and 20th century lit, which she's going to be teaching in a f2f class next Jan. She's characteristically modest about her abilities and prepping like mad - I know she'll be AWESOME.

Then lunch yesterday with [livejournal.com profile] benjyblue at Pure Vanilla. Also pleasant. We discussed my trip, but also work related things. I am constantly amazed at how astute and strong she is - well I shouldn't be surprised, as I remember hiring her!

After my workshop this morning, I'm meeting kp for lunch at Cafe Ceylon, which I'm sure will be terrific. It'll have to be a flying one, because I have to be at the vet at 3:15 for Cholomondeley who seems to have developed an eye infection (perfect timing!). Want to nip it in the bud before going away. Will also be an opportunity to leave credit card information for use by Clio the cat - or at least her temporary guardian - hoping it won't be necessary, of course, but taking precautions.

Then, tomorrow, I need a visit to MEC to pick up a few things - including, I hope, some kind of loop to fasten my daypack come camera bag come laptop case across my chest (or what passes for a bosom). It doesn't have fasteners, but it does have loops on the straps obviously intended for precisely such a thing. Not only will it add comfort, it will increase security for what, after all, would be a goldmine for a thief. And maybe some walking sandals if I can get some that will be practical for hiking and kayaking at home but also comfortable for mega walking in Paris.

Off to the college now - will check in again at least once or twice before lift-off.

Here is a big long link:

I swear by these shoes. I hesitated to buy them because of the price. I spend hours in a kayak, then often hike and walk a lot! These have been the MOST supportive and comfortable wet wear shoes I have ever owned!!!!!!! They dry very quickly, DON'T stink (some kind of sole) and support my gimpy, pronating feet nicely. They have only one downfall, if you get rocks in them you can't flick them out the front like a normal sandal. You have to learn to curl your foot, hold it up and wiggle it so rocks fall out of the bottom.... I HATE rocks and sand in my shoes. The closed toe does ADD to comfort and safety though.

I HUNTED may years for a kayaking shoes I could wear on good long walks. I don't recommend them for hiking simply because they lack ankle support. They come in MANY awesome colors. They are also sold at "walk in comfort," sometimes for a better price.

YUP I love these shoes, I only regret taking so long to buy them...

HAVE an AWESOME holiday!

Uhhh, Whoops. I forgot to log in. I am the one raving about the shoes... LOL! Been in bed so long I forgot how to do these things. Post term recovery! :)

Heh - I would have guessed it was you - I remember you saying that you loved kayaking. Thanks for the link re sandals! They look good - the only slight snag might be that I have quite small feet and sometimes have trouble getting men's shoes to fit. My Blundstones are a bit on the big side, and I'm wearing the smallest size available - that doesn't matter so much with boots because you can stuff socks in, but I tend to take a smaller size still in sandals.

"In bed"? Have you had a health set back? I hope you're feeling better! (maybe you've already blogged about this - if so don't bother commenting - I haven't checked my "friends" page yet)

The shoes also come in womens sizes, I just found a link to those ones... The womens ones are narrower at the front. I like the extra room, bunions ya know! LMAO! Howz that for british feet?

There are LOTS of brands of those types of shoes. Some stink really quickly and others have seams on top of the toes. Try them on bare foot, preferably with sweaty feet if you are sensitive about that kind of thing. Ask about stink guard too! I have friends who spent a lot of money on a pair to throw them out after a summer because they reek!

I have been quite ill. Pushed a bit too hard through the term most likely. Will be fine, lots of fun and sun coming my way.

SAW an AWESOME kayak for sale tonight. NOT the right boat for me, but would fit someone smaller. A friend is selling it... Hee hee just in case. Beautiful, well maintained boat. Fiberglass, Current Designs, "expeditition." Great price... :) (Always recruiting!)

Hope doggie is okay. My cat has suddenly, uncharacteristically, gone off her food and I'm worried.

By the way, I'm NOT prepping like mad. I can't seem to focus on reading. Every night I promise myself that TOMORROW I'll really get on it, but every day I go back to frittering. Does that ever happen to you?

Frittering is my middle name :)

I hope kitty is okay. I can understand why you'd worry. Cholmondeley is fine. The vet gave me some ointment and said I'd caught it before it got nasty - it may not even be necessary for the boarding person to continue administering it, but I can take it with him just in case.
