I know that most of you think "Snow? In Canada? Tell us something we don't know..." But in fact what many of you don't realize is that snow in my part of Canada is very unusual. Ours is described as a "mediterranean" climate; for gardeners, we're zone 8, which means we can grow palm trees when the ROC (rest of Canada) has trouble growing roses. So when it snows, particularly before Christmas, it's exciting.

There's only a dusting, but it's falling softly outside as I write. The dogs may be able to have a snowball fight later.

Your dogs have snowball fights? That sounds adorable!

Only the first dog I had as a child was really a snowball chaser. She treated them like tennis balls but no matter how old she got she would always seem confused when the "tennis ball" she had just caught seemed to dissappear in her mouth.

Well, my younger dog has a ball fetish, and can be persuaded to chase snowballs, too. The older one seems to quite enjoy having soft ones land on his nose and explode.

They both adore the snow. I'm hoping it sticks around till walkies time later today.

We are having a light snowfall here as well but it's too warm to stick as snow. My two love chasing snowballs. I wish we had more snow. It's my favorite weather except for the mess it makes of beardie feet.

yeah, the feet are tough. They hate it when it balls. It's the one time I think about putting boots on them. But they both love the snow and respond like children to it.

The white world outside my window startled me this morning!

I get to throw snowballs at the cat later. He, despite being black, loves to try and hide in the snow.

Have fun with the dogs :D

Aaaaaaaand . . . it's done. My daughter was vibrating with joy this morning, but it was over before we had time to enjoy it. Maybe next time.

Yes, you never know, it might snow some more tonight. I was just out with the d's and it is still freaking freezing out there!

I didn't know that about the climate! So there you are, in northern latitudes, but with the moderate climate of the Mediterranean.

...I love this planet. So much variation, so much detail!

Yes, and in fact we're not so much the northern latitudes, either. Victoria falls below the 49th. We're not that much further north than either Boston or NY. But we owe our warmth to the Japanese Current - the Pacific equivalent to the Gulf Stream.
