I've been re-viewing all of Buffy over the last few months. I was trying to integrate Angel, too, but I think my brain is too linear - one series at a time :) This past week has been the section of Season Five with "The Body," "Forever," "Intervention," and last night was "Tough Love." Over and over again I am just gob-smacked (for want of a better word) by how good they are. "The Body" was a little less painful to watch than the first time around, which was, after all, only a few months after my own mother died. That last line of Dawn's, though - "Where has she gone?"- still resonates. This time, I am able to pick up how subtly the writers are weaving ideas and foreshadowing events. The way Willow helps Dawn in "Forever" shows us that she is capable of doing what she will do at the beginning of Season Six, and why. The events of "Tough Love" of course foreshadow the terrible events towards the end of S6. And omg, how much do I love Spike at this stage of the series. His heroism in "Intervention," and the way Buffy responds. His line in "Tough Love": "I'm not good, and I'm okay" which seems to somehow sum up his character. His tender relationship with Dawn.

So for those of us who love Spike (and who doesn't?), a linky treat: an interview with James Marsters. Part 3 is at the top; you can scroll down for parts 1 and 2.

And a meme, which seems to be going round again. Of course:

I have not yet got round to buffy and probably won't until I get some time (i.e., in ten months), but I love the word gob-smacked and was gratified to see it in your post. :)

Hello~ I was told about your weblog by a mutual wonderful acquaintance--a certain BP. :) I've been enjoying your entries immensely and, imho, your tags are a comprehensive compendium of all the good things in life.

Have you seen James Marsters as a scoundrel Time Agent in Torchwood? And what about HBO's new vampire series? I haven't seen yet, but I'm sure Buffy comparisons will be inevitable.

Also, have you read Sunshine by Robin McKinley? It's got cinnamon rolls in it.

Welcome! I have added your blog to my extra-lj blogroll. Anyone who can quote Hesiod, aptly, is okay by me :) My WP username is the same as my Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/debbieg/) one and my more public LJ class blog, so if I pop up in comments you'll know who I am. Meanwhile, I have to work out who BP is... :)
ETA: the penny has just dropped. Of course!! And yes, she is wonderful :)

As for your questions - no to both the TV ones. I watch very little first-run tv, as I just don't have the time to be "obligated" to watch something even in a particular week. I much prefer getting things on dvd. Have seen a couple of Torchwood episodes and liked it, if anything, more than Dr Who and look forward to meeting JM when he pops up - I've got TW on my Zip list, so it'll turn up eventually.

I love Sunshine!

Thank you. :) You're on my blogroll too. I always liked the Theogony but only recently discovered Works and Days. It has some beautiful lines.

Zip sounds perfect, as I've recently repented obtaining shows in less than legally defensible ways.Must look into it!
