A balm for sadness

Natalie, the woman who runs the daycare/boarding place that I take Robinson, organized a team to take part in a local fundraiser for the SPCA. Specifically, we were raising money for the Wild Arc wildlife rehabilitation center that the SPCA operates here.

It was a beautiful day, and a lovely walk. Because we raised over $1100 for the SPCA, our team won some nice prizes and got our photos taken - maybe in the paper tomorrow! In case we're not, or for those not lucky enough to live here in Victoria, here we are



That's me (of course) with Robinson on the left, then Natalie and Junior, Natalie's husband Michael with his Irish Wolfhound Fergus, their friend Ray and Ray's dog (whose name I forget).

Clio was an SPCA cat, so today's walk was in her memory.

Natalie had to lose the long sleeves quite soon - in fact very shortly afterwards she changed into her event t-shirt. It's always a little chilly here in the early morning, especially near the water, which this event was. Thinking of you in hot, smoggy soCal :(

The long sleeves are what I noticed, too! It's still sooooooooo hot and muggy here in Savannah, Georgia too. Ugh. I'm ready for our December weather!

Aww! You guys are so adorable. I'm happy you raised so much money. Wild Arc is a great place, we have taken many an animal there to be rehabilitated, including an injured crow, a turtle that wandered into the highway and I'm sure some kind of small mammals as well. I'm glad they are being funded. All the dogs are gorgeous!

Robinson looks just like a dog I used to have, that was a rescue. We were told she was a Tibetan Terrier, but I don't think that was right. Is Robinson a Bearded Collie? (That's what I think our Trusty was.)

Yes, Robinson is a beardie. Tibetans _are_ similar, though they tend to have plain coloured coats rather than the characteristic "collie" white collar and feet that beardies have. They are also a lot smaller (about half the size) and have slightly sharper shorter noses. My last-but-one dog was a Tibetan cross; I had her in the days before digital cameras so have no electronic pics of her.

All my pics of Trusty also predate digital cameras and I don't think I ever got any into the photo albums (most of my photos from the last twenty years are still waiting to go into albums), so it might take a bit before I could find one to scan in.

I think Trusty was the best, smartest dog we ever had. My first husband witnessed her being hit by a car and brought her home. Even hurt and in pain she never snapped or growled when he picked her up and as we cared for her after the surgery she required. My eldest son, then five, gave her her name: because, he said, she trusted people.

Congrats on raising all that money for such a good cause. I have to laugh at Robinson with his back to the camera! You'd never catch either of mine turning down free publicity!
