I was tagged by [livejournal.com profile] brisingamen on Facebook, but prefer to answer here.

1. I went to 13 different schools, not including two universities, and have lived in more than 18 different houses or apartments.

2. I can bend the tips of my fingers at the first joint, independent of the other joints.

3. Although I've lived in Canada most of my life, I have never learned to ski.

4. I can make a loud throaty kind of gulping noise that my father and I used to greet one another across long distances. People called it the "insert lastname here noise" because it seemed something unique to my family (I have no idea whether my cousins can also do it).

5. When I first came to Canada, I skipped a grade of elementary school because I'd already been to school for a couple of years in England. Consequently, I was a year younger than my classmates all the way through school.

6. My childlessness is more the result of physical impediments than choice or lack of opportunity.

7. However, this is not something that has ever really disturbed me; I don't dislike children at all but I've never really lusted after one of my own.

8. If I could travel back in time to the summer of 1979, I would do one or two things very differently and the whole course of my life might have been different. Or not. Who knows.

9. I once won a national university level Classics essay contest for an essay on "the significance of anthropomorphism in Classical mythology."

10. In the year I graduated from UVic, I was the only student there awarded an MA-level SSHRCC grant.

11. In my whole life, apart from the time I spent in Toronto and China, I have never been for more than a couple of months without a dog.

12. I am probably my own worst enemy.

13. After years of being quite painfully shy, I have suddenly realized that I'm not any more. Reserved, maybe, but not shy.

14. I was once a heavy smoker.

15. As well as English, I have taught classes in Latin and Mythology.

16. I was once the only girl in a household with fifteen boys ranging in age from 11 to 16. It was not fun.

17. I had an older sister, who died.

18. The last time I had a travelling companion on any long flight was when I was 12 years old.

19. I am quite an accomplished cook, and I love to cook for other people.

20. I cry at movies. I have been known to cry at happy endings.

21. I cannot crouch with my feet flat on the floor, because I have short Achilles tendons.

22. That defect played hell with any ambition I might have had to be a ballet dancer or figure skater.

23. I have had two bits of my body replaced.

24. I still sometimes regret that I didn't have the guts to attempt a career as an actor.

25. I am happier at 53 than I was at 35, but wouldn't mind having my 25-year old body back.

This was one of the most interesting presentations of this 25-Things meme.
