It's 4:00 am and I'm loving this song. Check it out!

Do you know the original (Sandy Denny, Richard Thompson, Fairport Convention), too? I could probably dig it out for you if not.

It's a gorgeous song (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Who_Knows_Where_the_Time_Goes%3F). Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbpURBJA4uA)'s a demo sung by its writer, Sandy Denny (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandy_Denny). I can't find a studio version of it on YouTube, but it's on Fairport Convention's third album, Unhalfbricking (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unhalfbricking). (Hope this is not TMI, I love Fairport Convention and Sandy Denny!)

Thank you for that! That video is lovely. I like Fairport Convention, too, but seem inexplicably to have missed this song. It's been covered by so many people, too.

I love everything Kate Rusby does. And if you have to be up at 4 AM, she's good company.

That was lovely! Here singing style reminds me of Emily Smith, whom I like.

A song I just discovered yesterday that I loved after just one hearing is "Funny the Way It Is," (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaZXgfAW0ak) by Dave Matthews Band. I have never been a huge fan of Dave Matthews, but this song I really liked. And the lyrics are good, too...

And completely different in style, one of my favorite folksingers, Tim Eriksen, sings a song he heard from another of my favorite folksingers, Jean Ritchie: "The Cool of the Day," (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4EAdHRFMl8) --very beautiful, minor key, and the images are so, so soothing.

And here is Jean Ritchie's singing for you (downloadable)

Thanks for those! Funnily enough, I just downloaded an album of Emily Smith from iTunes.

I love that song and she sings it beautifully - but I think I still prefer Sandy Denny's original version. So poignant, when you think of how young Sandy was when she died.

And all the songs on Liege and Leaf are great too. I love "Crazy Man Michael." It is too bad she died so young.

Fairport Convention was wonderful at its peak. And I have always thought Richard Thompson one of the best folk guitarists around.
