It may only be January 4, but there were buds on the hellebores in my garden this afternoon.

That's funny because on the ferry this morning I heard that everywhere things are going awry from global warming - bats aren't hibernating, species aren't migrating and for the first time ever species from the south are actually moving north because of the mild climate.

This makes me very nervous.

Actually I don't think the hellebores are behaving all that aberantly (is that a word - my spell check doesn't think so...). They are very early spring flowers, and you often see pics of them blooming above snow. It does seem a BIT early, though. This is the first year I've had them, so I've nothing to compare them with.

Still pouring here, six hours south of you. Last night we had black ice on the sidewalks while I was trying to walk the dogs. Maybe I'll move to the island with you!

Pouring down here too today (where Intertext lives :P).

And I dunno about you, but I found the 4th quite chilly! :)

Yeah, and now I wouldn't be surprised if it _snowed_ again. Apparently the long-term forecast for this week is for snow. Funny how often it does in the first week of term and creates chaos! Of course you, up at UVic, have already started again, haven't you?

Yep, already had one of each of my five classes. First day back we had presentations. Each of three of us had to speak on an article (or 5 chapters of a book, for me) for 15 minutes and bring discussion questions to cover another 45 minutes as a group.

Fun, fun!

But yea, moments ago I had a notice slipped through the door, warning of heavy rain tomorrow, suggesting we remove valuables from the basement, etc. Drainage isn't doing so hot where I live right now, but we haven't had any flooding yet. Just lakes. More than Michigan. :)
