The dogs and I went for walk today with them on leash and me really walking fast enough to be breathless. Probably only about 3 km return trip, but that's 2.9 km further than I could go three months ago. Go me!! We went down to the West Song waterway for the first time in so long I can't remember - my hip had been so bad that it was painful walking much distance and I was foregoing leash walks for places where the dogs could run and I could throw a ball for Robinson. It was grey and cloudy this morning, but the sun came out this afternoon and it was beautiful and we saw a seal and Canada geese and other dogs and it was lovely.

I'll do my Thanksgiving post tomorrow, but I already know that one thing I'm thankful for is my new hip.

I walked into my surgeon's office today without my cane. And was pronounced fit. I saw my x-ray - this extremely solid looking joint looking as if it has absolutely no intention of dislocating ever. He (my surgeon) said "congratulations, your hip will only keep on getting better from now on."

Oh, and I went swimming on Monday and today for the first time since before the surgery. That felt really good, too. It was great to get the heart racing and to move the rest of my body. I'm so much appreciating my body these days: feeling strong and fit and healthy.

I slept until quite late (for me), that is, until the dogs started shuffling their feet and coughing to remind me that other bladders than mine required emptying... Then I had the Sunday paper in bed with a La Collina cinnamon bagel and some juice, then I took the dogs for a walk at Beaver Lake. I still can't go very far, but there was a hawk circling and the air smelt nice and woodsy and the boys enjoyed it, so a good time was had by all. Then I did a load of laundry and washed the bird feeders in bleach and filled in my drug claims so that I'll get some money back from the insurance company. Then I met kp downtown for lunch/brunch and had a nice eggs bennie (which reminds me: who was benedict, and what is a maven as in pop-culture maven? these questions came up at lunch and enquiring minds want to know). Afterwards we went to M.E.C and kp bought a couple of tops but I didn't, but I then went to Eddie Bauer and spent far too much money on three - no four - tops and a pair of very stylish cords which need turning up at the bottom but are otherwise a perfect fit despite being size 8 (!!!!). Then I came home and let the dogs run around in the garden while I dead-headed the cosmos, and now I'm here doing this. So there.
