Woe!

Another in this series of melodramatic book postings. I got a spam mail from Amazon announcing a new Connie Willis. My heart raced! I immediately went to the page and was all set to pre-order it right away ... when - alas - I saw from the reviews beneath that this is not a "new" book, per se, only a new collection of short stories, all (or at least probably a good number) of which I already have in separate collections.

Sniff. I am crashingly disappointed. A new Connie Willis would make my year, but I guess it is not to be.

You may feel your misery a tiny bit lessened for having been shared, as Charlie was reading his LJ before I got to mine and said 'Oh, a new Connie Willis?'- causing my heart to race as had yours! My disappointment was less severe for my excitment having lasted a shorter time, no doubt.
I do think there is a new Connie Willis to be expected semi-soonish [Oh please. Oh please.] as she was talking about it being a bit behind schedule at Worldcon in 2005. But you've probably heard about that and are just being more realistic than I am!

I hadn't heard! (behind schedule in 2005???) I guess one reason her books are so wonderful is that she takes her time writing them - doing loads of research etc. But - am I right in thinking the last one was Passage? That was hauntingly, astonishingly good. All her books are so great. Sniff.

Oh, I agree so much about Passage. There was one sort-of book since that - a novella really if that even - I always have trouble remembering the name - ah - it's Inside Job. In maybe Asimov's? and then done as a small press, $35+ hardcover-only printing, and I thought it was fun but not worth that really.

I emerged from Passage blinking and just desperate to discuss it with somebody and nobody I knew had read it yet... (Which reminds me - Inda reply on the way at some point, but yay for your review!)
