gakked from [livejournal.com profile] majrgenrl8.

The effortless meme (on my part, at least):

I know very little about some of the people on my friends list.

Some of you I know relatively well. Some I know very well; one or two of you I even know in RL.

Some of you I hardly know at all. Perhaps you lurk, for whatever reason. But you friended me and I thank you for your interest in my words.

But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself? It can be any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's so and so...they listen in rapture to the love-music of she-turnips." I might feel compelled to mock your musical taste, but I'll certainly remember you.

I'd love it if every single person who friended me would do this. Yes, even you people who I know really well. Then post this in your own journal and see what gems of knowledge appear.

I think I would, actually, listen in rapture to the love-music of she-turnips.

I have two middle names.

According to the template going around, my gangsta name is Strawberry Flipflop.

My last name is Irish but everyone thinks it's English.

Both sides of my family have a Family Mole. I got my mom's. My sister got my dad's.

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007 05:55 am (UTC)
Actually never mind the middle names, I'm not even sure what your first name is - is it really Cat?

I have the family left foot :) And a hole in my right ear that isn't a piercing!

And the love-music of the she-turnips appeals to me, too :)

Hmm I don't know what to say that you don't know! Most of my journal is pretty . . . explanatory.

So I guess I should say something . . . Uhhh . . . I'm really excited for Aliens vs Predator to come out, even though it promises to be even worse than the first.

That's all I can come up with now.
Wednesday, December 19th, 2007 05:53 am (UTC)
Why Aliens vs Predator? Kelly and I are stoked about "Atonement" - maybe that shows you what sad literature geeks we are :)

I only read about 75% of the comics I buy and I buy about six issues every week. I would never admit this to my mother.

When I was little, I wanted to be a farmer because it would give me an excuse to dig in the dirt and be surrounded by sunflowers.
Wednesday, December 19th, 2007 05:52 am (UTC)
I used to think being a farmer would be wonderful. I still think being a professional gardener would be better in some ways than what I do.

Wow. That's a lot of comics :) What's your favourite?

I grew up in a rural area in New York State. There are people certain I've told them I grew up in New York City, and others certain I've told them I grew up in a small town.

How to be mysterious about your background :)
Wednesday, December 19th, 2007 05:46 am (UTC)
I have grey-blue eyes.
My middle name is "Anne".

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007 05:51 am (UTC)
I have grey-blue eyes too! And my middle name is Winifred, which I used to think was awful until I watched Angel :)

I've traveled to five continents, but never learned to drive. (Funnily enough, I don't think I'd ever counted the continents before. Europe, Africa, South America, North America, Asia. I suppose I should try for Australia some day, but the thought of spending that long on a plane daunts me.)

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007 05:59 am (UTC)
I envy all that travelling. I've only been to three out of those five, and would like to try and catch you up :) I know what you mean about the long plane trip to Australia, though!

If I'm walking alone (or with just my dog), there's a 50-50 chance I'm telling myself stories, thinking out the details in my head. (If I'm not, then I'm either just mulling over life and problems, or enjoying the landscape.)
Wednesday, December 19th, 2007 05:47 pm (UTC)
I do that, too, or just have conversations with myself and some "other" :) I don't think I realized you had a dog!

I'm leaving the same comment on all of these.
I am a pretty good cook when I bother to cook, but usually I am too lazy. Even more rarely practiced -- I am an excellent baker.
Wednesday, December 19th, 2007 05:45 pm (UTC)
I love to make bread, and used to do it often, but unless I'm entertaining it seems like too much, because I don't actually eat all that much bread. I like to cook, too.

Going up ladders makes me feel ill, but I love hill-walking.
Wednesday, December 19th, 2007 05:44 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I'm not that keen on ladders, either. Or any heights much, but I also like hill walking.

I used to think of myself as a gadget freak; yet three years ago, when I wanted a "proper" camera, I went backwards and bought a second-hand film SLR; and have since bout a second body and several more lenses. The more I use it, the more I like it.
Wednesday, December 19th, 2007 05:42 pm (UTC)
I still have my old Olympus OM1 film camera, though I have to confess I never use it. Digital photography has changed my life.

i'm going to sydney in four hours. also, i LOVE cats.
Wednesday, December 19th, 2007 05:41 pm (UTC)
Aha. Are you one of the cat-not-under-any-circumstances dogs people (like my friend Chickenfeet2003 below), or do you tolerate dogs? As you must be able to tell I am hugely a dog person, but do love cats too, and have a much esteemed one in my household.
Wednesday, December 19th, 2007 12:01 pm (UTC)
I did the round trip from Toronto to Melbourne four times in eight weeks. I should have been given a jetlag medal.
Wednesday, December 19th, 2007 05:39 pm (UTC)
Yikes! I thought I was pushing it when I flew back and forth from China one summer.

I can wiggle my ears independently, and roll my stomach in a way that's considered quite amusing/gross (according to taste) if you draw a face on it in felt tip first. Touching my toes, now, that's a different matter...
Wednesday, December 19th, 2007 05:38 pm (UTC)
hahaha. Now, if you were an exhibitionist, you could do those things on YouTube and become famous! (but if you were the kind of person to do that, you probably wouldn't be on my flist..)
Wednesday, December 19th, 2007 03:25 pm (UTC)
People at back East cons thought I was Patricia Hodgell. In fact so much so, Steve Brust once walked up and gave me a hug and asked "How're you doing, Pat?"
Wednesday, December 19th, 2007 05:37 pm (UTC)
Oh, my goodness! Do you look alike?

Although I think of myself as English, I'm technically more Scottish than English (although I don't think the concept of having "Scottish blood" is actually very meaningful.) I have already had my (Scottish) name mis-spelt in four different ways in Christmas cards this year.
Wednesday, December 19th, 2007 05:37 pm (UTC)
I don't think I knew that about you (the Scottishness). Interesting :)
Wednesday, December 19th, 2007 05:00 pm (UTC)

I fear the music of she-turnips.
I still think of all the dogs (the one from when I was a kid, the one my parents have now, and the two my sister has in Windsor) as family.

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007 05:36 pm (UTC)
Oh, my goodness, what else are dogs if not family?? I know others do not share that opinion, but to me it's natural.
Wednesday, December 19th, 2007 05:43 pm (UTC)
I once appeared in the pages of Better Homes and Gardens as a fairy, helping to illustrate a tapestry pattern for an article. (I was perhaps 7 at the time.)
Wednesday, December 19th, 2007 05:48 pm (UTC)
Oh, how delightful! I can picture you as a child dressed as a fairy :) Do you still have the clipping?
