The effortless meme (on my part, at least):

I know very little about some of the people on my friends list.

Some of you I know relatively well. Some I know very well; one or two of you I even know in RL.

Some of you I hardly know at all. Perhaps you lurk, for whatever reason. But you friended me and I thank you for your interest in my words.

But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself? It can be any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's so and so...they listen in rapture to the love-music of she-turnips." I might feel compelled to mock your musical taste, but I'll certainly remember you.

I'd love it if every single person who friended me would do this. Yes, even you people who I know really well. Then post this in your own journal and see what gems of knowledge appear.

I just Googled images of her (and there are more of her available out there than of you btw!), and I *guess* I can see it...

It's funny that people who know her well enough to be saying "Hi Pat" would make the mistake though!

I understand about aging--I surprise myself in the mirror all the time. "Hey wait, I don't look like **that**," I say. But I do, I do...

I've gotten pretty good at avoiding mirrors. But I had to laugh--I had to go up to LA last week, and the uniform of choice for those meetings is jeans and a nice top. I wore my awesome burgundy velvet jacket, and there was my braid hanging down, so from the back I probably looked young. Anyway, a young woman at the next stall tapped me on the shoulder and began explaining that she left her wallet behind and could I give her a dollar or two for gas, and when I turned around, she looked at my face and JUMPED. then recovered fast, like "Ugh! Old lady! Oh God, don't show your revulsion!" I had to laugh at myself; when she took the fiver I gave her, her attitude had shifted from fellow woman to mom.

LOL! I feel that way if guys honk at me when I'm walking. I think to myself, yeah, fine from a distance but boy would you be horrified if you came up a little closer!

I remember ***years** ago--when I was still a Young Thing, my brother's girlfriend (he's eight years younger than I am) treating me not as a peer but as an Authority Figure. It blew me away! My son's girlfriend treats me a as more of a peer than my brother's girlfriend did...

I constantly have to remind myself that I'm more than twice the age of most of my students, older than people I used to consider OLD when I was their age. I know exactly what you mean about having a shock when you look in the mirror. However - I wouldn't mind my 20 year old skin, hair and bod back, but I love my 50 year old mind!
