Okay, Venice was terrific, but the Diana Wynne Jones Conference was sublime.

It's hard to summarize three days of non-stop intellectual stimulation, book-talk, meeting of friends, and general Good TimesTM. The papers were wide-ranging and of very high quality. For me, there was added delight in the fact that long-time and very dear LJ friends like [livejournal.com profile] owlfish, [livejournal.com profile] gillo and of course [livejournal.com profile] lady_schrapnell and [livejournal.com profile] steepholm were there. I got to meet the latter two in person for the first time, which was thoroughly delightful. I also got to meet newer friends like [livejournal.com profile] heleninwales and [livejournal.com profile] emmaco, and made new friends as well.

Oh, and I think my paper went pretty well :-)

My Penzance hotel internet access is about to expire, so more later...

Your paper was great.

I'm still trying to process it all - so many new things to think about. And possibly 30+ books to re-read in new contexts.

It was simply enormous fun too, though - a fannish weekend but with added Thinky Thoughts.

Ditto to all of these comments. I'm so glad I decided to go!

Glad to meet you in person [livejournal.com profile] intertext

It was a wonderful weekend and the only problem was that I wished I could have been in two places at once on Saturday so I could listen to all the papers!

As someone who's come very late to academia, it was my first proper academic conference (though I have attended items in the academic at the Worldcon in Glasgow). It's whetted my apetite for more.

Do you happen to know whether the text of the papers will be available in some form in due course? I'd love to be able to refer to them again.

Charlie, Edward and Farah sat down on Sunday and did preliminary planning for a proceedings, though of course nothing is certain at this point! But everyone seems to want one very much, and they're definitely working on it. (Well, Charlie's here in Lampeter at another con and F&E will re-emerge after WorldCon, but the process is started already!)

Hurrah! I'll watch out for further information appearing in due course.

Yay :-)

Your paper went fantastically well in my completely humble opinion! No chance to do proper posting or even reading of LJ, but spending a few minutes to rejoin already much-missed new/old friends of the weekend.

*blush* Thanks :-)

And yes, having met you, I now wish I could get together with you again next weekend!!

Your paper was terrific, I thought. Also so was the general chatting!

I loved your paper. It was one of the really thought-stimulating ones.

Hope to see you again (at the next DWJ conference?)

Cheers, Helgard
