Your paper on the Faery Queen as a Mary Sue
I have a friend who is taking a course on early Irish myths and has been ranting bitterly and at great length about the main figure in a series of legends she was reading being a Mary Sue (or in this case Gary Stu).
I don't think she has ever read any Spencer, but she is planning on an English major, so I will gleefully tell her she has to, and then sit back with the popcorn.

Owen was my boyfriend my senior year of high school. I had one of those "across a crowded room" kind of moments my sophomore year when I saw his freshman class picture in our yearbook, and fell half in love. I met him later that year, which sealed the deal, and languished in wretched love for two years until our senior year. We went out (ish--I wasn't supposed to date or have friends, but my mom wasn't there so what I did before six was my own business, and I worked Sundays at a fast food place, so Sunday afternoons we could usually steal a little time) all that spring, and a few weeks after we graduated, he was killed. I have not really ever been the same, which is going to be true anyway once you reach a sufficient distance from 17, but I was not very well for a few years.

2. If I say that I associate you with the colour grey, take it as a compliment! Serene, cool, but soft...does that make sense?

I met graylion at a party at some mutual friends' - he walked into the room and was pointed out to me as someone I'd have interests in common with. That was last New Year's, and while it took us three months to realise that this was Love At First Sight, we have talked every day since...(with the excpetion of two days. I think we wanted to see if we could do it).

Unix system administration mostly. For a federal government dept. Not quite the stereotypical BOFH though - most of my "users" are database people or developers so I am mostly removed from any 1st level support. And my manager and direct teammates are all database administrators, so I sometimes get lumped in to being one of those, or something get into discussions with my teammates that the same security rules they want to impose elsewhere also really apply to them, and stuff like that.
Also despite (or because of) my job there are days that I just absolutely hate computers and days in which I think every single OS or software invented is completely broken.

Late medieval/early modern England. I mainly used legal records to do social history-type stuff. So in my MA I studied a bunch of court records relating to abduction cases, and talked about what they could tell us about wardship and marriage and the fights for control thereof. I did some other stuff on the criminal underworld, prostitution, and homosexuality, too.

Well, that would be #3 above :-) The parents split up. I went to Sweden to school. When I came home there really wasn't any place for me to live. C wanted me to come live with her in California, so I took a chance and did. That was 23 + years ago. So I'm an old, not-married woman (because neither state will stinkin' make it legal already!)

I met Shen on a text-based role-playing game we both frequented. How dorky, eh? ;p
